So it cranks but does not start or it does not crank over? Have you checked the fuses?

It starts. Just wont stay started with out me pressing the gas.Is it something with the fuel line perhaps? How can I checkSeems like it isn't getting fuel. I am no longer parked on a hill.

Ok you could have a faulty fuel pump. This is very common. Checking fuel pressure is very vital in diagnosing an [engine](/topics-engine-chevy/) performance issue. Depending on the application, it will take anywhere from a few moments to a few minutes to hook up a fuel pressure gauge. Most fuel systems you can screw right into the fuel pressure test port on the fuel rail while others you will have to tap into the fuel line by removing the fuel pressure line from the rail or fuel filter and installing a fuel pressure gauge in between the two in order to check fuel pressure. Some fuel systems are only at 30 to 40 psi while others range in the 50 to 60 psi range or more. Once you know what your fuel pressure is at, you are going to want to go and look up the correct specifications for your vehicle to see if your fuel pressure falls within the factory specs. You can go to alldata.com or another source to look up your specifications for your vehicle. If the fuel pressure is low, be sure that the fuel filter and the fuel pressure line is not plugged or pinched and that the fuel pump has full battery voltage before you replace the fuel pump.

Fuel pressure on this engine should be 55 to 62 key on and while cranking. If not, replace the fuel pump as needed. It has been a pleasure working with you so far. Keep in mind this is a “starting point”. We can always continue as needed at a later date or at any time. Feel free to run some tests and reply back for further assistance as needed. My goal is to provide you with excellent service. If you have follow-up questions on this same topic, please use the reply box below. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks and have a great day!

Um hello that's not helpful.Replacing the fuel pump isn't something I can do sitting in the side if the road. Is there anything to try?
Automotive Expert
What would you try with no tools?

Run what tests? You literally told me nothingwhat is the point of this service??
Automotive Expert
What do you plan on doing without any tools?

Where do I see what the fuel pressure is?
Automotive Expert
The point of this service is to educate you on the subject. This issue you are experiencing is not something that can be fixed via chat and is not something that can be fixed on the side of the road. You can hook up a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail and take a reading. You will not be able to do this on the side of the road. The vehicle needs to be towed home or to a repair shop so the tests can be done correctly and safely.

Great

Please let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks and have a great day! You can also check the fuses and check for codes in the computer using a compatible scan tool. Of course once the vehicle is at a safe location.
