If third gear is revving up high then the clutch pack is worn out and you will have to rebuild the transmission. Of course make sure the fluid is in good shape and full but if all the other gears work good then the clutch pack discs are slipping and causing it to rev high.

You would have to buy a rebuild kit to get the clutches so it wouldn't be any more expensive. The 3rd gear clutches are in the back of the transmission so everything else would have to come out. You might as well change the other clutches also.

You can get a rebuild kit for around $400. The labor price would depend on how much they charge. If they have to pull the transmission then it would be about $900. If you bring them the transmission then they would charge about $500 labor.
