Q: Car stalls Randomly

asked by on January 09, 2018

So the other day I was driving my car. Then suddenly the car died while driving. And I tried starting it right after and it would crank no start. Then 10 min later I tried turning it on again and it tuned on fine and ran but then would die and do he same thing again. It seems random so what could it be? A crank sensor or a fuel pump I am so lost.

My car has 126500 miles.
My car has a manual transmission.

You will need to have computer tested to see if it has codes for a sensor issue like a crank or cam sensor. If there is no sensor codes then the most common failures are the fuel pump module and fuel pump.

Car leaking antifreeze
Hi. I suggest you have an expert, such as one from YourMechanic, inspect the coolant leak (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/coolant-is-leaking-inspection) and repair it. Coolant leaks can lead to overheating, which can cause catastrophic engine damage. I'd recommend getting this fixed ASAP.

Serpentine belt broke. Dealer is telling me it can wrap around crank and get into engine. What are the odds of that happening?
There is a possibility the belt can wrap around pulleys and the crank. I have seen pieces of belt get behind pulleys and a/c compressor clutches or crankshaft pulleys. If the mechanic inspects the old broken belt they can see...
Rotors and brakes were replaced only 6 months ago, but have now been making noise again for 3 months.
Hi there. Brake squeaks and squeals are a result of pad vibration, unless it's a sensor touching letting you know it's time for brake pad replacement. All brake pads vibrate, whether it's audible depends on the frequency at which the...

A loose wheel (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/tighten-wheel-lug-nuts), a wheel bearing going bad (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/wheel-bearings-replacement), possible brake pad movement, resulting from poor fitting pads (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/brake-pads-replacement), a worn axle shaft cv...

Hello, thank you for writing in. The best option is to recreate the noise and pinpoint where it is coming from. You can do a bounce test to test the suspension components. Go to each bumper and press down on...
Car overheated now won't start
Hi There, It sounds like you may possibly have a blown head gasket as a result of the overheating. Sensors like crankshaft and camshaft position sensors are also sensitive to extreme temperatures as well which may be what could have...

It is not clear if the check engine light and the other issues (the PRDNL light and the no start) are connected. The OBD-II trouble codes should be downloaded though as they may provide key clues to resolving this. You...
