Hi, I am having trouble with my 04 Grand Cherokee 4.0 liter. I had some electrical problems which I was able to sort out but all of a sudden I’m getting code P0753. Is there a way to test this circuit to find if I do in fact have a problem in the trans? I suspect a harness issue but it is extremely hard to get to the harness. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* Mechanic's Assistant: Just to clarify, what's the exact code? And have you tried to reset it? P0753 and yes I’ve tried to reset it. All wires and harnesses by the battery, fuse box, and computer have been removed and tested Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Grand Cherokee yourself? What have you tried so far? Yes, I’m trying to fix it myself. It started with an evap problem that took forever to find but once I did, I got 5 different codes for various systems. I bought a reman computer, which was bad, had a junkyard computer paired, and eventually went back to the original. After this, only P0753 came back. It will shift manually Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? I think that about covers it, thank you.

Hi! Welcome to JustAnswer. Thank you for contacting us for assistance with your vehicle. I'm Ron. I will be happy to assist you with your question. May I ask to whom I have the pleasure of speaking with today?

Hi, this is John
Automotive Expert
Good morning John. Nice to see you today! I'm sorry to hear you are having this problem. I know this can be frustrating. Please give me one moment to type out some information for you. Sit tight one minute. I'll be right back !

Actually, I'm at work until 3:30 today and the Jeep is home, so no need to rush.

Thank you for holding John, The code P0753 indicates there is a problem with the 3-4 shift solenoid and or the circuit to it so before you start your testing, verify the connection for the transmission solenoids are fully connected both on the external connector and the internal connector. If the connection checks oaky then there is some testing you can do that will help you identify the problem. I have enclosed the testing steps for you in the link below as well as the transmission circuit wiring diagram for testing reference. See the testing steps in this link. I will look at these throughout the morningThank you

You're very welcome, John! Glad I could be of some help today! I hope everything works out well for you! If there are any additional questions on this issue that should arise, please feel free to reply and ask! Have a great day!

Hi, this is John again. Your diagram and test method were extremely helpful but I still can't seem to get (and keep) power to fuse 28. I have power at fuse 5, so I jumped the fuses and it shifts great but the code P0753 is still present. I've spent a lot of time looking for broken wires/ bad connections with meters and test lights. Is there anything I could have missed? This is frustrating... any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, John.

The fuse #28 gets its power from the transmission control relay and the relay is grounded by the transmission control module which is incorporated into the PCM (computer ) so if the PCM is grounding the relay and the relay is not powering the fuse#28 then the relay is bad, if the relay is not being grounded by the PCM then the problem is with the PCM or the ground circuit from it to the relay.

I did test the relay supply and ground and 12 volts and ground were present. I swapped the relay with a spare I had but will try a brand new one tonight.Once again, thank you!
Automotive Expert
Okay, I would try a new relay if you are sure you have power and ground at the relay, if the relay is energizing then it should provide power to fuse #28. Thank you as well!

Hello again this is John with the Jeep. I put in a new relay to find no difference. So I used your diagrams and Ohmed out the whole harness and all checked out good. I went back to the junkyard computer and suspected a problem at the connector for the harness from the fuse box. I hammered a wedge to put pressure on it and it runs great! Now when the snow stops I'll go out with diethylene grease and firmly secure the connections. I will get back to you with my progress but it may be a few days to monitor performance. Thank you so much!
