Q: Fuel pressure

Rebuilt carb new oil new spark plugs firing order correct wires are good fuel pump good have fuel pressure regulator set to 6.5 pounds start the car it idles rough and eventually dies I pull the fuel line to the carb and cap it start the car again it idles perfect until the fuel in the bowls is gone. I have done this several times same results every time. What can cause this? Thank you in advance appreciate any help I can get.
