Q: Will a 1996 transmission from a tahoe fit a 1999 chevy tahoe?

asked by on December 12, 2017

I got a 1999 tahoe and transmission doesnt work . Will a transmission from a 1996 gmc yukon that i found fit my 1999 chevy tahoe?

My car has 169000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Both of these vehicles use the 4L60E/m30 transmissions. The only thing that may concern me is the 4 years difference may have changes in the wire connections between the two transmissions. I would recommend checking the two wire connections between them to verify they are the same. Other than this check the two transmissions are the same design and model and will cross fit each other.

What is wrong with my suspension/steering?
Hi, thanks for writing in. If the struts on the car are original, it would not be unreasonable to replace them outright simply because you have relatively high mileage on the car. While the struts are being replaced, all other...
Not getting gas to the carb
Your symptoms are a bit in conflict. One comment suggest that there is no gas getting to the carb - in which case it should not run at all. Another comment indicates that is runs, but won't idle - and...

Hi there. Check the battery cables to see if they are loose and if there is any corrosion. Check the condition of wires to the starter to ensure that they are tight and there is no corrosion. If the battery...
My car is shaking when accelerating.
Hi there. The description you have provided, leads me to believe you are experiencing an inner cv wobble. The inner cv joint (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/axle-cv-shaft-assembly-replacement) has excessive play, this results in shaking upon acceleration. Another possibility would be, a broken engine or...
I just had a air mass filter sensor put in my car 2011 on Nissan Altima plus a new air filter and the check engine soon light came on.

When I fill my taknk up gas is on the ground under my car
Of course it is possible that a leak in a steel fuel supply line (due to corrosion), or a rubber hose, occurred after the pump was put in, but that would be quite a coincidence. More likely, if the leak...
My Acura TL 1999 has a idling problem. It idles high to low. And it takes a while for the gears to switch when I'm reversing and in drive.
For the idle condition, check the (IAC) Idle Air Control Valve (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/idle-control-valve-replacement) and see if its plugged up. You can take it off and clean it and then put it back on. If the idle continues to be irreratic, then...
I was driving had my car on gear and lost acceleration. I pushed the clutch in and put on gear but only grind but won't move?
If the clutch lever, on the transmission, is functioning something has mechanically failed in the clutch and/or the transmission. If the clutch failed, and you heard gears grinding, as you tried to shift the transmission, some damage may have been...
When i start to exceed 50mph i hear a ticking sound that seems to be coming from the driver side rear wheel area.
Hi there. There are several variables that could cause this ticking noise. Generally speaking, if the ticking noise only occurs at higher speeds and progressively increases in speed the faster you go, it is often caused by a loose or...
