Usually my car runs at 2000-3000 rpms at 65-70 mph. Today just by going 60 my rpms were at 5000. I didn't go any faster to hear the [engine](/topics-engine-toyota/). My 3 questions are. Is this dangerous? What's happening? Should I see mechanic? Mechanic's Assistant: How many miles are on the car? Is it an automatic or a manual transmission? Automatic. It has about 213,000 miles. Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model of your '00 car? 2004. Toyota [Corolla](/topics-corolla/). Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Corolla yourself? What have you tried so far? I have zero skills to fix any car and I haven't tried anything. I noticed the issue going to work and I'm still at work. Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? Not at this time.

Hi! Megan Hope I can help sorry to hear about your cars RPM so high it sounds like your transmission is not going into higher gears or over drive .

No problem just text me back do you have a check engine light on your dash also ?

I have a check engine light but it didn't come on at any point on my way to work.
Automotive Expert
you might need to have the codes inspected you could have a sensor issue if higher RPM you have a issue should not go that high at 60 mph

With the transmission. Would I have to get it replaced or just worked on?
Automotive Expert
it will need to be checked first could just be a sensor or solenoid .

Okay. I'll get it looked at asap. Thank you for your help.
Automotive Expert

Hot at idle and low when driving never stays in middle
Hi. This sounds like the water pump is not circulating the antifreeze in the engine. When a water pump stops circulating the antifreeze as well as it should the car tends to run hot when it is at idle and...
dealer tells me that the ECM damaged the throttle body. For $1,100 they are replacing both. Does that make sense?
Hi there. From the description you have provided, the ECM (electronic control module) may have been the problem from the start. When the TPS (throttle position sensor) codes were stored in the computer. This would of been the time to...
Oil light goes off and on.
This light will usually come on when one of two things are happening. Either the motor is in fact low on oil or the oil pressure sending unit (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/oil-pressure-sensor-replacement) is not working properly and may be producing a faulty reading....
Transmission valve body
The 48RE valve body is designed to flow more transmission fluid and build up pressure quicker than the 47RE. This is quite likely the reason you are experiencing shifting problems. As you know, automatic transmissions use pressurized hydraulic fluid to...
I need to know where the fuel cut off switch is at

Oil pressure sensor
There are a few common reasons to get a trouble code for low oil pressure (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/oil-pressure-light-is-on-inspection). There could be a low oil level, failed oil pressure sensor, a wiring problem, oil that needs to be changed, an engine that has...
how long should it take to replace a brake vacuum pump on a 2003 Ford F-250 super duty ?
Without diagnosis or testing the vacuum brake booster pump will take less than 1.5 hours. The time may vary if components are rusted, corroded or any other problems are encountered.
Where is the starter located on a 2005 ford escape hybrid?
The starter is above the oil filter and opposite the A/C compressor (on the same "side" of the engine as the A/C compressor). The starter may be obscured by a splash shield that indeed must be removed to replace the...
