I drive a 2006 toyota highlander. Yesterday the VSC light suddenly came on. What might this mean? Mechanic's Assistant: Do you happen to know the code? Have you tried to reset the computer? I haven't touched anything! Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Highlander yourself? What have you tried so far? Nothing. Have appt with a dealer on Monday. I just need some info now! Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? Car has 179000 miles

Hello and thank you for choosing JustAnswer. Sorry to hear you are having this problem with the Highlander. My name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* I will do all I can to assist with this issue. You may receive an Automated prompt for a phone call. There is an additional fee for the call and is NOT required. Continuing with the Chat is my Preferred method. **(I have attached a document(s) to this thread. Please let me know if it does not show up on your end or if you have any problems opening the file. Note: Attachments may not show up if you are using a mobile device, go to your last e-mail from JustAnswer and you will see the attachment.) Note: Document links will automatically delete after 7 days.** The Anti-lock [Brake](/topics-brake-toyota/) Control Module on your 2006 Highlander works in conjunction with the [Engine](/topics-engine-toyota/) Control Module to prevent the individual wheels from locking up when braking, accelerating and cornering. These safety features fall under the heading Vehicle Stability Control (VSC). The first step in identifying the problem is to perform a vehicle scan to identify the stored code(s) in the Anti-lock Brake Control Module. While most parts stores offer a free scan when your vehicle's Check Engine light is on, it requires a more advanced scanner to retrieve the codes in the ABS Module. It is hit or miss as to whether a parts store will be able to retrieve the ABS codes on your Highlander, but if you are able to obtain the code(s), I have the factory diagnostic procedures for whatever codes are stored. There is a TSB that may apply, but the code(s) are required before proceeding. (See attached) [https://www.dropbox.com/s/vjmixg9bjliose7/t-sb-0032-16.pdf?dl=0](https://www.dropbox.com/s/vjmixg9bjliose7/t-sb-0032-16.pdf?dl=0) In the absence of the codes, there are only 2 things an owner can do. 1. Check the brake fluid level. 2. Insure all of the tires are properly inflated. In most cases the vehicle can still be driven when the VSC lights are on - It should not affect the base brake system. That being said, care should be taken if road conditions are slick, as the added safety features of the VSC system are disabled. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions. Note: If I don’t immediately respond, I kindly ask for your patience, I will reply as soon as possible. Thank you for choosing JustAnswer. 100% Customer Satisfaction is my goal. Thanks Gregg. I have my car services regularly at firestone. I am certain they checked ALL the fluids. I do have an appointment on Monday to take the car to a toyota dealer. ($$). I do not do service on my car so may just wait and see what they say.

Hello, Yes, the dealer is your best option. I realize it seems more expensive at the dealer, but they are well versed with your highlander and will be equipped with the proper software, whereas an aftermarket repair shop may not be properly equipped. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to assist once you get the diagnosis.

Thanks
