I bought a second hand vehicle from a car yard, I'm however suspecting it could have tracking device installed and I'm afraid i risk having it stolen. The alarm system started going off randomly after a month or so and suddenly the central locking system acts weird like ticking of for a few minutes every time I start driving, then it goes silent after I gather some momentum. The alarm going off was persistent especially for a few days when I was parked at the work place and once or twice when parked at home. I cant seem to think of any trigger that could set off the alarm since the security guards could not see any contact around the vehicle anytime the alarm goes off. Do you think my suspicion might be accurate? Mechanic's Assistant: Where exactly do you think the noise is coming from? And how long has this been going on? For a month now..but not every single day just on certain days the alarm goes of fke like 5-10 minutes and that's it.. Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car? TOYOTA HARRIER YOM 2005 Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far? I got an alarm specialist to check it out, he said the central locking noise was likely due to a problem on the passenger door, he tried to fix it but ended up messing up the entire system, all doors could not open thereafter, I got a different mechanic who fixed the door opening, the central lock noise and the alarm going off still persists.. Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? How do I establish if there is a tracking device on the car? If there was one? How does someone with bad intentions track my movements..what exactly should I be on the look out for to know if I am actually being tracked?

I will do my best to help you resolve them. Please understand that I do not know your knowledge or capabilities so I may need to ask questions to find out basic information to help solve your specific problem. Sometimes it may take a moment for me to respond because I may have to look up information about your concern. I appreciate your patience and will provide responses as soon as possible. Will not be from any tracking device. Tracking devices work off GPS satellites so there is no RF(radio frequency) from it that could interfere with an alarm/security system. Either the alarm control module is faulty, the hood switch or one of the door switches is faulty and causing this. They will need to be tested to determine which is at fault Thanks for using Just Answer and letting me help you. I hope I provided what you needed. If you find more help is still needed, let me know by listing out any remaining questions you have on this concern. I hope the remainder of your day is well.

Thank you for your response Eric, is there any way I can quickly establish if their is a tracking device in my vehicle?

HI, You would need to either spend several hundred dollars on a tracking device locator or pay a private investigator to check with theirs. Because they come in all shapes and sizes and can literally be mounted anywhere on or in the vehicle, it is not something you would be able to visually locate yourself

Ticking noise in engine - 2002 Ford Explorer
Hi there. First, check the oil level to the engine. If the level is low, then fill up the oil and check for any leaks (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/oil-level-is-low-inspection). If the level is normal, then I recommend adding 1 quart of ATF (automatic...
I used 5w-20 engine oil of instead of 5w-40 as recommended in the manual
