**DTC P0974 SHIFT SOLENOID "A" CONTROL CIRCUIT HIGH (SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE S1)** Shifting from 1st to 5th is performed in combination with ON and OFF of the shift solenoid valves S1, S2, SR, SL1 and SL2, controlled by ECM. If an open or short circuit occurs in either of the shift solenoid valves, the ECM controls the remaining normal shift solenoid valve to allow the vehicle to be operated smoothly (Fail safe function). This could be due to a circuit issue between the S1 solenoid valve, a bad S1 solenoid or a bad ECU. You'll need to complete the attached diagnostic steps to confirm the cause and address your issue.

**DTC P0986 SHIFT SOLENOID "E" CONTROL CIRCUIT HIGH (SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SR)** Similar issue as per the previous description. This is caused by a circuit issue, the SR valve or the ECM. You'll need to complete the attached testing to confirm.

This could require internal transmission work which will either require pulling the valve body from the transmission, repair wiring circuits or replacing/programming a new ECM. This work will require an OEM scan tool with programming capabilities or it will have to be towed to the dealership after repairs for the programming to be completed. If you don't have the equipment and experience, this is a job that I would suggest you trust a professional with. A lot can go wrong inside the transmission so you don't want to turn a $500 job into a $5,000 job due to an installation error. I’m glad that I was able to answer your question today. My goal is to ensure you receive a 5 STAR experience. Once you’re satisfied with my answer please take the time to rate me 5 stars at the top of your computer screen or by following the link on your phone. These ratings are extremely important to us experts. Tips are never expected by greatly appreciated as they make up a large part of our income. If you have further questions please request me by opening a new question and I’ll be glad to help you with any of your automotive issues. Thanks for using Just Answer!

What parts? Have you tested it and confirmed what has failed? If it's a circuit issue there are not parts to replace it's a wiring repair. If you are looking for the solenoids then you'll need to order them directly from your local Toyota dealership by VIN #. Same with the ECM as there are multiple options.
