Q: The other day I was driving my 2003 Ford 500 limited and the whole car began to shake it didn’t feel like it was shifting right

asked by on March 26, 2018

The other day I was going 55 down the road and I went to speed up then the whole car began to shake. It almost felt like a tire had come loose. When I pulled over to check my tires and realized they were fine, I got back in and tried to drive again. The car still shook and didn’t seem like it wanted to shift gears. Momentarily the radio would skip too. I’m not positive what is going on, but when I took it out for a drive today it still seems to be jerking strangely.
My car has an automatic transmission.

It sounds like you might be having an electrical issue. I would recommend having your alternator inspected by a qualified professional to determine if it is functioning properly. Alternator failures can cause multiple electrical symptoms that are abnormal.

Advice on using high-mileage oil
Well, you can go ahead if you want. It's a better lubrication for old, worn rubber seals, and stuff like that. Go ahead, the oil (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/a-guide-to-motor-oil-additives_2) is not going to hurt anything. It cost a little bit more but it's...

This may very well be a sign of a bad thermostat (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/thermostat-replacement) or something else such as failing coolant fan relays (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/cooling-fan-relay-replacement). As you may know, the thermostat regulates the flow of coolant in and out of the...

When starting RPM of car starts going down and then engine stops.
It sounds like you may have a fuel supply problem in getting the proper amount of fuel to the fuel injectors which may be caused by a bad fuel pump (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/fuel-pump-replacement) or potentially faulty fuel injectors (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/fuel-injector-replacement). This can happen...
My car made a loud screeching noise and now smoke comes from under the hood and it smells. Also its not drivable
It sounds like you may have an issue with the transmission. A torque converter going bad makes the most noise when the engine is running and the transmission is in gear with the vehicle sitting still. If you move the...
