Q: Take off (First Gear issue)

asked by on December 10, 2016

Hi I have a 1.3 petrol Suzuki Swift which is causing me some bother when taking off in first gear, The car needs 3000-4000 rpm to pull away and quite often this is too fast for me as I am a learner and worry it will cause me to have an accident, It seems to work fine some days and other times it cuts out if not reaching minimum 3000 rpm. It cuts out whilst reversing too unless at great speed which again will cause problems as I cannot fully control my car yet, Other family members experienced drivers find it difficult to drive smoothly it needs serious power and makes awful loud revving noise during moving off.

My car has 145000 miles.
My car has a manual transmission.
