My girlfriends car is having the p0128 code pop up every once in a while but mostly during colder months. Being semi handy I've replaced her Coolant temp sensor 2 time already, it "fixes" the problem for a little bit. But that code keeps popping up, she had it takin to a shop, they stated they changed the thermostat but we are still having this issue Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the connectors on the sensor itself? It's important that they not be loose or corroded. They don't look to be in bad condition, or lose from the sensor itself, short of having the wires looked at with a volt meter, they seem good to me Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car? 2008 pontiac g6 gt coupe Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your G6 GT yourself? What have you tried so far? Tired changing the sensor, I don't trust that the shop actually changed the thermostat due to it being a in a hard to get to location

The P0128 is a code that could pop up in a very cold condition, where the engine has needed to long to get to operating temp? Most common is as you now know is a thermostat that opens too soon, does not close fully close. Possible causes: - Low engine coolant level - Faulty engine coolant temperature sensor - Engine coolant temperature sensor harness is open or shorted - Leaking or stuck open thermostat - Insufficient warm uptime - Engine coolant temperature sensor circuit poor electrical connection. If an aftermarket thermostat or a low temp opening thermostats was fitted could be your problem. You may have to remove the thermostat to check this. My goal is to provide you with excellent service. If you need more help, please let me know so l can continue to assist you. Simply reply back if you require additional information and I will be happy to help with any follow up questions. I am not done until you are happy. Kindest regards Greg

I'm very appreciative of your help, I'll have to check to see if the thermostat has been replaced and possibly stuck open. Her heat is very poor, and when the code is active the heat doesn't work at all

Have you tried to block off half of the radiator just to see if this improves the heating quality? Greg

I'm not sure how you would do that
Automotive Expert
Put cardboard in the top half of the radiator, to cut off half of the airflow. Greg

if my transmission fluid was filled a quart over could this cause my reduced engine power light to come on?
