Q: P0016 (crankshaft and camshaft correlation bank 1 sensor A)

asked by on October 12, 2016

My CEL goes off intermittently. When its either on or off is gives the code p0016. Whats wrong with my car?

My car has 28000 miles.
My car has a manual transmission.

Hello.

Trouble code P0016 is set when the computer detects that there is an issue with the timing between the engine’s camshaft and crankshaft signals.

The camshaft and crankshafts are connected by a belt or chain, and are precisely timed for maximum engine performance. If the computer detects that the timings are off, via the camshaft and crankshaft position sensors, it will set off the light to alert the driver of the issue.

A few common causes for this code are a bad camshaft solenoid, a bad cam or crank sensor, bad camshaft actuators, any of the associated wiring, or a bad belt/chain. I would start by looking at the cam and crank position sensors and go from there.

Can I add Lucas oil "transmission fix" to my transmission fluid to see if it helps my issue.
Adding an additive to the transmission to try and fix a problem will not work in most instances and should only be used as a last resort before getting a transmission overhaul.
When I shut off engine, the light between 7 and 8 on the dash started to blink. The light is in the shape of a car. I goes away on startup.
The light on the dash could be coming on for the traction control system or the low speed, grade, and terrain assist. It would be best to have the computer scanned to see if there is any pending or stored...
