here are the diagnostics for P2422. it's a bad canister closed valve, but it shouldn't keep the engine from starting. when you say the immobilizer light is flashing, do you mean its flashing when you turn the key to the start position? (attached)

When I turn the key to the ON position, just before turning it the rest of the way to start the car, it flashes a few times. This has not happened before.
Automotive Expert
its normal you just never noticed it. if it goes out with the key in the start position is all I am worried about

I'm not sure if this will answer your question, but when I try to turn the car on it still flashes a few times but then stops
Automotive Expert
when you hold the key to the start position does the light go out?

It blinks 5 times and then stops blinkingDuring this the car is turning over but not actually starting
Automotive Expert
do you have another key?

No I don't, I bought this car from an acquaintance and was told this was the only keyI don't even have a key fob
Automotive Expert
Limp home (override) procedure When you turn the ignition switch to the ON position, if the immobilizer indicator () goes off after blinking **5 times** , your transponder equipped in the ignition key is out of order. You cannot start the engine without the limp home procedure. To start the engine, you have to input your password \*\*\*\*\* using the ignition switch. Your password \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* available from an authorized Kia dealership. Contact an authorized dealer for more information. The following procedure is how to input your password \*\*\*\*\* “2345” as an example. 1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. The immobilizer indicator () will blink 5 times and go off indicating the beginning of the limp home procedure. 2. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position. 3. To enter the first digit (in this example “2”), turn the ignition switch to the ON and ACC position twice. Perform the same procedure for the next digits between 3 seconds and 10 seconds (for example, for “3”, turn the ignition ON and ACC 3 times). 4. If all of the digits have been input successfully, you have to start the engine within 30 seconds. If you attempt to start the engine after 30 seconds, the engine will not start and you will have to input your password \*\*\*\*\* After performing the limp home procedure, you have to see an authorized Kia dealer immediately to inspect and repair your ignition key or immobilizer system.

there is absolutely nothing else that can be done??
Automotive Expert
no sir. for some reason, the immobilizer has dropped the key code. you can have a certified locksmith come out and reprogram the key for you.

Before or after I do the procedure you described
Automotive Expert
instead of.

what about the reprogramming option, on for 10 min 30 sec then off then on 10 min 30 sec then off then again then start..
Automotive Expert
thats only with a scan tool

What scan tool?
Automotive Expert
sorry, not a scan tool but with the password
Automotive Expert
**the password \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* available from your local KIA dealership once you provide them with proof of ownership.** I will be back in 15 minutes

Hi are you still hereThe Kia dealership I just got off the phone told me that my year-end model don't actually have programmable keys and they also told me that they don't actually have immobilizer system on it and that I'm just seeing a security symbol on my dashboard so I'm really hoping that you can help clarify whether or not they are wrong I mean the guy on the phone did say that he has been there for about 6 months and that's it he didn't even know that my Amanti came with the system
Automotive Expert

ok, the vehicle has the immobilizer. that is a programmed key and an immobilizer sensor coil around the ignition. whoever you talked to doesnt know what they are talking about

Okay thank you
Automotive Expert
you are very welcome.

my best bet is to call a locksmith
Automotive Expert
yes sir

Because the dealership says there is no such thing as the password/code for the limp home override procedure
Automotive Expert
ok, let me get the procedure for you right from the service manual for your 2005 KIA AMANTI

Hello
Automotive Expert
Hi, whats up?

I had a locksmith come out and he paid for the pin code from the dealer but said he had to make me a new key does this mean that limp home procedure will not work?I was going to try it but I don't know if I do the key code or pin code
Automotive Expert
if he made you a need key then it should start.

He has to go get the van to be able to make the key
Automotive Expert
ok

My question is if that procedure will work or not
Automotive Expert
if you use the password \*\*\*\*\* do the procedure correctly step by step

Is it the key code or the pin code
Automotive Expert
if they gave him the key code then nothing else needs to be done sir

Hellomy locksmith is here, he put a new chip into my key but it is still not starting he says he thinks the immobilizer is messed up
Automotive Expert
its very possible and aa immobilizer fault code would be stored in the body control module. so you would need a scan tool that can read body control module fault codes.

Is that the obd2This is what I don't understand though I thought that when I got my key reprogrammed with the new chip and pin code from the dealership that my car would startThis is what he sent me (I took out vin#&make/model if car)Key Code:L0699 PIN Code:YES - 005616Which one would I do the procedure with
Automotive Expert
follow the procedure I have sent you twice now. here it is again.

You're rude. Thanks so much for not answering my actual question. There are two separate codes that I sent you.
Automotive Expert
those are not fault codes

No they are the codes that the dealership sent
Automotive Expert
how am I rude? I absolutely am never rude to my customers then you need to follow the procedure that I sent to you with the PIN CODE AS THE PASSWORD
