Q: itms reading STEERING WHEEL ASSIST FAULT

asked by on

Why does my car say STEERING WHEEL ASSIST FAULT

My car has 137000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hello. The steering wheel assist message comes up when the computer detects an issue with the vehicle’s electronic power steering system. Your particular model of vehicle is equipped with electronic steering that uses a series of sensors, motors, and switches. If the computer detects an issue with any of these components it will set off the warning light to notify the driver of the issue. In many cases the light will come accompanied with steering issues, such as a steering wheel that is difficult to turn. A scan tool can be used to retrieve the codes associated with the warning message. I would recommend having a professional technician, such as one from YourMechanic, come to your location to (retrieve the trouble codes and diagnose the cause of the message)[https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/check-engine-light-is-on-inspection].
