Q: I have a problem with my C240 - the gear won't shift from one

asked by on November 20, 2016

my gear wont change from one to others

My car has 6000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Since your question is not very specific, I will address a couple of situations. If by "my gear won’t shift from one to others" you mean the shifter will not move between park, reverse, and drive, that can be caused by a couple of different things. If the brake light switch is bad, it can prevent the shift interlock from releasing, keeping the shifter from moving. Also, the shifter mechanism itself can have an electrical or mechanical fault which prevents the shifter from moving.

If you mean that once in Drive, the transmission will not shift up through the forward gears, then other issues can cause this. Low transmission fluid levels can prevent the transmission from shifting. The transmission works using hydraulic pressure to shift gears. low fluid or poof fluid condition can prevent shifting. The transmission control module - the electronic brains of the transmission - may also be at fault.

In either case, a certified technician can diagnose the exact cause for you.

Blower motor made strange noise and then stopped working
I believe it is certainly an issue they should have fixed if a recall was indeed issued (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-to-check-if-your-car-has-recalls) for this exact issue. 40k miles can easily be driven in as little as two years, so there is no reason that...
A/C-Heater blower not working
Try to disconnect the blower motor to see if the fuse blows again. The motor is shorted most likely. The motor fried the module (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-heater-blower-motor-resistor) (resistor) and may of fried the new one. Try disconnecting the module and blower and...

The blower motor relay (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/blower-motor-relay-replacement) should be labeled C1011 in the battery distribution box under the hood. The simplest way to test it is to see if any adjacent relays are similar and temporarily swap them. If the fuse and...
Warm air blowing out of vents. It's not hot like it should be and it takes a very long time to get warm

Hi Jeff. Thanks for contacting us today. An arching battery can cause a lot of different electrical problems. Sometimes, the shift solenoid can cause the shifting issues you're describing, while in other instances, it's a mechanical problem. I think the...
