How many miles can I drive while the gas light is on empty

My car has 21645 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Every vehicle is a little different when it comes to how many miles you can drive when your low fuel indicator first comes on. The fuel gauge is an estimate of how much fuel you have in your fuel tank. It is not an exact amount of how many gallons you have left. Most fuel tanks will have between 2 to 3 gallons of usable fuel left. Now in order to know how far you can get in miles you will take your miles per gallon average you have been getting and multiply the mileage you get by gallons of fuel you have left. Say you get 25 miles per gallon then you should multiply 2 gallons x 25 miles per gallon. You should be able to drive about 50 miles before running out of fuel. In order to get a better idea of how far you can drive you would need to run completely out of fuel and note how far you drove.
