Q: How do you fix a seat belt retractor that's locked up

First, if the spring inside the seat belt is broken, then you’ll typically replace the entire unit (as it’s more difficult to attempt to repair that issue). Second, if the spring is jammed, it’s likely that some debris got inside of the housing and simply needs to be cleaned. You might start by removing the outer housing to inspect it and go from there.
