Q: How do I remove a tailgate 1997 Ford F-150

asked by on

the handle won't release the tail gate so I need to get this repaired

My car has 96000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hi there - there is a small metal panel on the opposite side of the tailgate from the latch which conceals the latch mechanism. Removing this plate should allow you to gain access to and replace the latch. If assistance is desired, I recommend a tailgate latch replacement performed by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, and replace the latch mechanism.
