In 2012, the Ford Focus Electric model went a step farther than other eco-friendly cars. Instead of creating another hybrid model, Ford chose to offer a fully electric vehicle with a very impressive range of 76 city miles and 110 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent).

The electric model gets all of the same features as the gas-powered Focus, including navigation and Ford’s SYNC infotainment system. It also has very low home recharging times, so you won’t have to worry that your car won’t make it to work in the morning, either.
Changes for 2012
2012 was the first year that Ford offered this fully electric Focus model. With zero tailpipe emissions and a long range of travel (up to 100 miles of combined city and highway travel), it’s an impressive step into the future.

We really like that this car doesn’t “look” like an electric vehicle. Ford set out to create an affordable electric car that looks, feels, and drives like a gas-powered car, and they succeeded.
What Concerns Us
While more and more businesses and workplaces are including charging stations in their parking lots and the range on the 2012 Ford Focus Electric is enough for most people to get around for a day or more, we’re still nervous about running out of juice. Without a gasoline backup, Focus Electric owners are going to have to plan their trips pretty carefully, and long road trips are off the table.

Major Recalls
There have been two recalls on the 2012 Ford Focus Electric. Some models were recalled to address an issue with a malfunctioning warning chime for the driver-side door. Others were recalled to address a sudden loss of motive power.
Common Issues
The biggest complaint with this vehicle is that it requires a home electric upgrade, which is not a huge issue and is only a one-time expense.
