A Buyer’s Guide to the 2012 Infiniti M Hybrid

Infiniti M Hybrid 2012

For those who want a hybrid system that doesn’t sacrifice luxury, power or comfort, the 2012 Infiniti M Hybrid is a great option. With commendable fuel economy, a plethora of driver assistance features and a luxurious feel, you’d never know this is also an economical option that rivals some of the heavy hitters in the class.

Key Features

The 2012 Infiniti M Hybrid features a single electric motor that replaces the torque converter. The result is a vehicle that can electric-only driving up to around the 60 mph range. After that, and when decelerating, the motor also turns the engine off to save fuel and energy. With Eco Mode, Snow Mode and Sport Mode, drivers will also be able to tailor their driving experience to the current conditions and their own desires for performance.

Changes for 2012

The 2012 Infiniti M Hybrid is new for 2012, and its 360 horsepower coupled with relatively high gas mileage results in a hybrid that is fun to drive and responsive – all while maintaining luxury and comfort.

What We Like

The overall performance and drivability of this hybrid sedan makes it fun on its own. However, when you add in the numerous technological driver assistance options, like the Mode Selector, navigation system, 4Wheel Active Steering, lane-departure warning, blind spot monitoring, adaptive front lighting and forward collision prevention systems, the exceptional safety makes for a truly enticing hybrid vehicle.

What Concerns Us

As with most hybrids, the trunk space is severely compromised by the large battery. The vehicle is also quite heavy, which does affect performance slightly. You should also be prepared for a bit of jerkiness when suddenly hitting the accelerator when traveling at low speeds, as it causes the transmission to downshift and send a boost to the rear wheels. You’ll also want to be prepared for an adjustment period with the braking system if you’ve never dealt with regenerative breaking.

Available Models

The 2012 Infiniti M Hybrid is available with a 3.5-liter V6 accompanied by an electric motor. Together, the system provides 360 horsepower, which is power enough for smooth acceleration. The engine also provides 27/32 mpg city/highway fuel economy, making it an economical option compared to others in its class.
