Hi, so if they replaced the alternator already it sounds like the ac compressor or the waterpump may have seized. Its also possible they installed the alternator wrong. The burning and smoke was the serpentine belt breaking. I suggest NOT driving it and having it towed

The serpentine belt powers the steering,a;lternator,waterpump and ac compressor. Once it breaks you loose everything

Ive been hearing a rattling sound coming from the right hand side of car especially whenever I go over potholes or bumpy streets for 2 days. Then, just now as Im driving it seems the power steering went out as it took all my force to turn the car. The battery light came on and smoke started coming out of the right hand side of the car. I made it to work and now the car is parked. What could all this be? Im very worried about the power steering. Mechanic's Assistant: Have you tested the battery?
