Q: Hi I own a 2002 Volkswagen Passat and i recently ran out of gas. But after I filled up the car will crank but will not start .
I ran out of gas,however I know refilled but my car will not start,it just cranks. I should also mention this is the 2nd time I've run out of gas.
My car has an automatic transmission.
The fuel pump may have burned out or the pump module on top of pump burned out when you run too low on gas since the pump uses gas to lubricate and keep pump cool. Have pressure tested and replace pump and module as needed.
