Q: Car is completely dead but comes back on after a few hours. But in about a week it dies again. And won't jump.

asked by on November 30, 2017

Bought a used car from Kia dealership. After about 4 months of driving this car, it randomly died. Can't unlock it, no lights come on, nothing happens when you stick the key in the ignition. After a few hours, car started without any issues. Worked normally for about a week. Then dies again. Immediately tried to jump it, and nothing happened. After taking the jumper cables off of the working car (while connected to my dead one) and tapping the ends together, the lights came on but still wouldn't start. Tapped the ends together again, car started. Took the car to the dealership, they ran a diagnostic and said it was the battery and needed an oil change. I replaced the battery with a brand new one, but had JUST HAD an oil change few weeks prior. So i skipped the oil change. Car ran great! Then a week later, dead again. After a few hours I, went back to the car, it started. Took the car back to the dealership, they kept the car for a week and said they could find nothing wrong. Help?

Fuse keeps blowing.
Hi, it sounds like you may have a injector that is shorted to ground or an injector cable that is shorted. You can test them with an ohm meter. I would suggest getting a mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic,...

Burning Smell and Squeaking Wheel 2007 Honda Civic
Hello - the smell and "hot" symptoms you describe suggest your rear brake is dragging on that rear wheel. This could be an emergency brake cable which is not releasing (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-parking-brake-release-cable), or a frozen brake cylinder or caliper. I recommend...
Stalling
Hi There, It sounds like you may have a dirty or failing idle air control valve causing your engine idle to fluctuate and eventually stall. The idle air control valve (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/idle-control-valve-replacement) is a small valve on the engine's intake system...
Is my transmission goin out or did a sensor or somrthing go out?
This is often a sign of low transmission fluid (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/transmission-fluid-service) or a faulty transmission control solenoid. As you know, automatic transmissions use pressurized hydraulic fluid to change gears. Every time a gear change is required, the car's computer activates a...
Can a cracked fuel line/pipe cause an o2 sensor to go bad?
Hello, thank you for writing in. The fuel line being cracked is going to cause issues with the way the engine runs, and a lean or rich air/fuel mix will cause the oxygen sensors to detect the difference in carbons...
