Q: Can clearing a code affect the idle air control valve

asked by on July 15, 2017

The check engine light (solid) and cruise control (flashing and cruise would not work) light both came on when driving. I believe this was due to the gas cap being loose. I tightened the cap and had the auto place clear the code (can't remember exactly what the code said, but it was something about a emissions film (?)) Anyway, about 45 min after the code was cleared I went to start the car again and it was idling funny and then completely died when I was backing out of a parking space. The car would continue to stall when the RPMs would reach 200 RPMs or so (or at least I think that is what the line measurement is . . . its below 1000). Two days later, it no longer completely dies, but it will shutter when the RPMS are low and then balance out on its own. I am wondering if it is possible that the computer is recalibrating the idle air control value after being reset (code cleared) and it will eventually correct itself?
