I'm trying to figure out whether or not it is worth it to get bmy grandson's car fixed. The front axle on the passenger side of his 2003 buick century completely broke! The wheel is disconnected. He said he saw transmission fluid on the ground. We had it towed to my home. Mechanic's Assistant: When was the last time your transmission fluid was checked? Changed? Probably a week or so ago Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Century yourself? What have you tried so far? No not fixing ourselves. Tried nothing. Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? Need someone to check it out

Sometimes it may take a moment for me to respond because I may have to look up information about your concern. I appreciate your patience and will provide responses as soon as possible. If the vehicle is very clean and you really love the car then it may be worth fixing. The biggest issue would be the transmission. Since you lost transmission fluid, you'll need to put a new shaft in it and fill it back up to make sure the transmission is not damaged. My goal is to give you the best service possible and to help you. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to let me know. If I’m not online at the time, I will respond ASAP when I get back.

Do you happen to know approximately how much it costs to replace the drive shaft and fix the AC problem?
Automotive Expert
The CV shaft would probably cost around $300 to fix. You would have to get the A/C tested to see what's wrong to determine what it would cost to fix it.

Is it possible that the transmission is not messed up at all, it's only 2 years old, and only a seal? Are you giving up on this conversation because I choose not to speak on the phone?
Automotive Expert
Yes it is absolutely possible the transmission is not messed up. If the shaft came out then the fluid will come out. No I'm not giving up on the conversation. You have to give me a few minutes to type out my response.

Ok great! Thank you so much for the information! I guess I'll have to call a mobile mechanic and go from there.

Can I ask you another question on my other vehicle to get your thoughts?Ok, here goes, my 2005 ford escape smells hot even after driving short distances. The oil is full. The transmission fluid is full and no indication of overheating, light, observed. I haven't noticed anything on the ground either! Thanks, Rhonda
