Q: Broken bolt in tensioner pulley. How to remove

asked by on January 07, 2018

Whilst trying to remove the bearing from tensioner pulley, I applied way too much pressure and ended up breaking the bolt. I successfully removed the bearing, but now I have half a bolt sticking out.. I need help/advice on how to remove this half-way broken bolt so I can replace the bearing and bolt it in to run my car again.

My car has 200000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

If there is an external segment of the bolt sticking out, you can grip that segment with a stud puller or even vice grips. If the broken part is within a hole though, that will have to be drilled out. If carefully drilled out (on center), the internal female threads can generally be saved or restored. If not, a heli-coil is inserted to effect the repair. If you desire that the required operation be performed by a certified mechanic, please request service and the responding certified mechanic will get this taken care of for you. Hello. This sounds like it could be a couple different issues: warped brake rotors (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/brake-rotor-disc-replacement) or worn bushings (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/stabilizer-bar-bushings-replacement) in the suspension. Remove your wheels and take a look at your rotors (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/is-it-safe-to-drive-with-warped-rotors) to see if they have grooves. If...
