The consult workshop message is not a maintenance reminder but an indicator that your computer system has identified a failure somewhere in the vehicle and has recorded a failure code. This requires you to connect the vehicle to a scan tool and read the failure code in the system. With that failure code you can perform the associated diagnostic procedure for the specific issue to identify what is causing it and repair the issue. You will not be able to get rid of the warning message until the issue is resolved. You can attempt to clear the failure code but if there is an issue the warning light will return. The proper step is to bring the vehicle to someone who can inspect and repair the issue for you. I’m glad that I was able to answer your question today. My goal is to ensure you receive a 5 STAR experience. Thank you. I am 72, a panel beater/Spray painter by trade and have been working on numerous cars and brands for ove 60 years. I have a 2007 Smart fortwo 450 city coup in Australia. Right hand drive. I have been able to fix all the dash comments and requirements previously. This time, about 1 month ago the two spanners came up on the dah with the comment consult workshop. The car was serviced by my mechanic locally. Where I live in Australia we do not have a Mercedes or Smart dealer. Now I still have the flashing Contact workshop on the dash. I have tried everything suggested on the internet without success. Please help. I received you answer but connot reply by text. Is there anything temporarily I can do to remove it. I am 400 miles from any dealer to get any help.

No, but any qualified mechanic should be able to connect the vehicle to a scan tool and retrieve the failure code from the system. Once you have that code they should be able to follow the testing sequence to identify the issue. You can clear the failure codes using a scan tool but if the failure is still there the light will come back on in the next few seconds or days once the computer confirms the failure again. You can do this reset procedure yourself by removing the battery terminals for 10 minutes to reset the computer if you don't have a scan tool.
