At slow speeds the abs kicks in when breaking . I'm on dry pavement. Is it the Speed sensor or Hydraulic Brake Booster Pump?

Hello. Most of the time this is caused by a wheel speed or a yaw sensor issue. I would start by checking the tires. Make sure that they are all the same. If one of the tires is different than the others then this will occur as it throws off the ABS readings.

If nothing is found then I usually install a computer scan tool and monitor the yaw sensor and the wheel speed sensors. This would tell me what is going on and what needs to be fixed.

The transmission seems to go into neutral when I stop ,then I turn off the car then restart and I can go again until I stop
Hi there. If it starts working fine once you restart the car, then chances are it is not the transmission failing. Most of the time, this is caused by a valve sticking in the valve body. They tend to get...
Can a over tightened outer tie rod end cause the boot to split an grease to come out??
If the tie rod boot is torn then it was most likely damaged during installation or was hit by something on the road. Either way the joint will need to be replaced again soon or else the joint will quickly...
Timing chain problem should I replace the motor because of the mileage
Hello. I would go with the option that makes the most sense in terms of cost efficiency. In some cases replacing the engine entirely is actually less expensive then rebuilding or servicing a major component. The 4.0 V6 that your...
Oily thick coolant
Hi there. This is a sure sign of a blown head gasket (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-to-replace-a-head-gasket-by-jerel-lawrence). This can happen when the car overheats causing the cylinder head gasket to fail. When this happens, this will allow oil to leak into the engine coolant...
Transmission only is in 1st and reverse.
Hi there. Today's modern automatic transmissions are much more complex than in years past. Because of this, your shifting issue may be caused by several individual internal components such as the ring gear, central gear, or even the torque converter....
Hesitation and smoke
Hello, thank you for writing in. While it is typical for the engine to give off some white smoke upon starting (as it burns condensation that builds while off at night), what you describe sounds more like a coolant leak....
I have a 1999 saturn. It burns oil fast and has a lot of white smoke from my exhaust. It shakes mainly in idle. What's wrong?
Hi there. White smoke coming out of the exhaust (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/smoke-from-engine-or-exhaust-inspection) is an indication that the cylinder head gasket is burned or the cylinder head is cracked. When coolant is in the combustion chamber, then engine will shake, the oil will...
My power steering pump pulley broke into pieces but pump spins freely, do I just need to replace the pulley?
Hi Bridgett. Thanks for contacting us today. When a pump spins freely as you've indicated, it's usually best to replace the pump, as it's possible that damage has been done to the pump when the pulley broke.
