Some of the 2007 Suburban’s are included in the Takata air bag recall campaign. You can find out if your car is affected by the Takata recall by inputting your VIN number at the NHTSA website. If the air bag warning light is on, there are underlying diagnostic trouble codes that can be downloaded to aid the diagnostic. Usually, the code(s) will refer to a circuit fault, like an open short, sensor malfunction and so forth. It is a fairly straightforward diagnostic. If the issue involves anything in the vicinity of the air bag itself though, such as the column mounted clockspring, there are special precautions that have to be taken so that the air bag doesn’t deploy and possibly kill you (air bags are dangerous...you don’t want your head or body around an airbag that is still in the circuit). The Factory Service Manual outlines all the precautions. If you desire that a mechanic download the air bag trouble codes, diagnose and repair the problem, right at your location, please request an air bag warning light diagnostic and the responding certified mechanic will get this resolved for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.
