Q: AC compressor clutch & turbo charger boost system performance problem

asked by on September 07, 2017

I purchased this car from an independent dealer earlier this week. I should have had a mechanic check it out or purchased a cancellation option, but didn't and now I'm stuck with my decision, but trying to make the best of it. On the drive home from the dealer the AC stopped working and when I got home, the check emissions system light came on (not gas cap issue). I took it to an Acura dealer the following day to get the diagnostic. The AC compressor clutch/coil needs to be replaced and the turbo is failing so it also needs to be replaced. The dealer I bought it from said to bring it back and they'll take care of it at no charge.

My question: The AC problem is a known honda problem, but I missed the Honda extended 7 year/100k warranty by a month. Is there a known issue in the Acura world about turbos failing or might this be a case of poor maintenance by previous owners? And did Acura drop the turbo for new RDXs for related problems or to target a different market?

My car has 91000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
