Q: Idle fluctuates

asked by on April 14, 2017

I have been driving my truck for about two or three years. I don't know the specific model or trim, it's a two door and two seater, with a little room behind the seats. My check engine light is on and I think it's the engire air filter (i think that's what it is called). The guy I bought it from did a lot of after market work on it. Under the hood, on the passenger side is a homemade box that is starting to fall apart. There's an aluminum/steel pipe that connects it to another pipe that I think connects to the engine. I have been connecting the two tubes together with duct tape because if they separate, I can't drive. I can push on the accelerator and the rpm's go up but its as if the truck is in neutral. I think it has to do with the homemade box. I think the box has an air filter in it. I just need to know what part(s) I need and how much it will cost to either have a mechanic fix it or to buy the part(s) and fix it myself. Thank you.

My car has 124000 miles.
My car has a manual transmission.

need to know how to change a coolant bypass solenoid and where it is located. Can't find anything on the internet about this.
Just search for "Ford Escape 2013 coolant by-pass solenoid". The coolant by-solenoid is generally located on top of the engine. After you make that search you'll get a good point of view. The repair involves removing coolant from the engine....
Car won't shift into second and has transmission fluid leaking. Transmission is a 200R4.
Hello, this sounds like a problem with the governor, perhaps the governor spring to be specific. If the spring breaks, it will not allow the 1-2 shift. The fluid leak (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/oil-fluid-leak-inspection) is likely not a big deal on its own...
Check Engine Light - 200 Dodge Durango
When the Check Engine Light is illuminated and you’re able to download the P0601 OBD-II error code (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/-p0601-obd-ii-trouble-code-internal-control-module-memory-check-sum-error-by-spencer-clayton), it typically indicates that the internal control module within the ECU is either faulty or not receiving correct data from the transmission,...
Engine runs fine but no power to the wheels when the car is in drive or reverse.
The first thing to do is to have the computer and transmission scanned to get the codes stored. Depending on the codes stored the transmission may have a bad pressure control valve that is not letting it move. A full...

Car temp reading hot but not overheating
Hi Jennifer. One of the most common causes of an engine that runs hotter than normal is due to air bubbles in the cooling system. If repairs were made to the radiator and the replacement coolant was not correctly bled...
Check gauge light coming on
Generally, the check engine light (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/check-engine-light-is-on-inspection) comes on when something fairly serious is going on with the vehicle. This can happen for many different reasons such as a faulty mass air flow sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/mass-airflow-sensor-replacement), a faulty O2 sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/oxygen-sensor-replacement), a...
My 2001 Ford f250 super duty 5.7L Triton V8 as I'm driving it acts like it ran out of gas
You may be right that there is a problem in the wiring, but I'm going to guess that you have an open ground wire. The wiring harness will have several locations where a wire comes out of the harness and...
