Car is making a noise Inspection $79.99 - $89.99 Get a Quote

Hi there. There could be an issue with the engine bearings or the transmission thrust bearings. First check all of the fluids in the vehicle. Make sure that they are full and if they are low to top them off. Then while in drive, set the parking brake and rev up the engine a little and see if the noise goes away. If the noise tends to go away, then the engine rod bearings may be worn and causing the oil pressure to be low at a low rpm speed. If the noise is still present, then the transmission thrust bearing could be damaged causing the internals to tap the transmission housing. I recommend seeking out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you diagnose the noise you are hearing.

I accidentally added 1 quart of Motor Oil into my transmission fluid what would happen?

If after you did this, you did NOT run the engine (thus operating the torque converter and oil pump in the transmission), nothing untoward will happen. The solution is to immediately remove the transmission oil pan, let everything thoroughly drain...

how hard would it be to change a solenoid? 2003 Jeep Liberty

Hi there - replacing shift solenoids generally involve draining transmission fluid, removing the pan and filter from the transmission, and sometimes, removal of the valve body of the transmission as well. This can be fairly involved, but still less expensive...

I'm having transmission problems with my 2011 Chevy Equinox. When I turn the car on the odometer starts at a 2.

The slow acceleration that you are describing could be engine or transmission related. If the vehicle is not shifting at the correct shift points, and consequently engine RPM's go way up (to 4,000-5,000 RPM) as it is stuck in a...

Engine starts but stalls immediately

This may be an issue related to what is called an idle air control module. This is a module that regulates the amount of air that is allowed into the intake system as it is mixed with the fuel before...

My fuel gauge fluctuates between 1/4 and empty. A friend said that there was a way to reset it, it's supposed to be under the steering wheel.

There is no way to reset a fluctuating fuel gauge. The fuel gauge is bouncing or fluctuating for either the float in the fuel tank has a bad ground in the rheostat or the gauge cluster has a broke or...

Wheel making rubbing noise

It is very possible that the wheel bearing is causing this issue. I would start by having a suspension inspection performed by a qualified technician, such as one from YourMechanic. After a test drive, the technician will likely use an...

When my car is idling at ref light it's shakes as if it's going to die. What is the problem?

Shaking or vibration may be caused by many different things such as faulty spark plugs, poor fuel pressure or misfires. Other things such as a faulty idle air control valve may cause the engine idle to drop below the normal...

Sometimes my car will not shift into overdrive and then sometimes it does, any idea what could be causing this?

This symptom is the TCC (Torque Converter Clutch) is slipping in and out while driving. To check this condition, scan the computer to see whether the TCC action is being commanded by the computer. There could be a problem with...
