When I drive my car won't accelerate past 4th gear. Sometimes it passed to 5th gear but a get a heavy kick Mechanic's Assistant: How old is the transmission? Have you checked the brake switch? 2006 VW jetta Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Jetta yourself? What have you tried so far? I've taking it to Just Tires and a local mechanic. They both say it is not a transmission issue? One of them said they think the engine ties or bands is loose? Causing the engine to shake. But I don't think that's the case..

No its notThis only occurs in stop and go traffic (street traffic) not freeways because it's when the gears change

When is the last time the transmission fluid was changed?

I bought this vehicle back in 2016 it had 50000 miles on it , it now has 80000 miles on itI have never changed the transmission fluid since purchasing the vehicle, and I am not sure about its previous history
Automotive Expert
Okay, If the check engine light is not on, I would change the fluid. Or at least get a sample of it and have a shop do a oil analysis on the oil to see it's conditions. I believe the oil is likely your issue being in stop and go traffic the transmission would be hotter. So old fluid would be less effective at the higher temp.

Would changing the transition fluid help with the kicking/sudden jurk?
Automotive Expert
Yes

My girlfriend just reminded me that the worker at just tires said that the pan has a dent in it? And there is some sort of leak. Not sure for if it's the transmission
Automotive Expert
I would take a look at it for sure, Even low transmission fluid could cause this. But if the pan is dented it will need to be replaced being it could restrict fluid flow depending on the location of the filter.

Do you know how much that all would typically costs for this vehicle? Also, in the event that it isn't the transmission, what else could it be?
Automotive Expert
The oil pan is 60 bucks online. I would check this first and if it doesn't work, you can respond here so we can proceed. I just don't want to say to many possible causes and get you side tracked.

Okay. I will check the transmission to see if it is leaking and if the dent is the cause

Thanks, \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* me know what you find.

Will do, thanks Keith.
