Q: Switched into 4H going 30 mph on the highway. I heard awful noises. Feels fine now. Concerned about damage to transmission & TC

asked by on April 30, 2017

I was under the impression something was wrong with my 4x4. So while I was driving home from school (this is stupid I know) I put the truck in neutral and switched over to 4H going approximately 30 mph. I then heard and awful noise and could not go over 2000 rpm and no faster than 10mph. I pulled over, looked underneath the truck for any visible damage (there was not any) then turned the truck off , turned it back on and made sure it was in 2 wheel drive, and drove off. Everything felt fine and normal. I am concerned that I may have damaged my transmission and or transfer case because the noise was so loud and dramatic. Thanks in advance

My car has 150000 miles.

Hello, thank you for writing in. Several things will need to be done, or can be done, to help diagnose the issue. Start by having the vehicle scanned for diagnostic codes, checking the oil, and checking the coolant. Both fluids...
