Q: My vehicle overheats constantly and just turned off while I was driving

asked by on March 17, 2018

In the past, my neon has given me issues with overheating. At an attempt to fix this, we have replaced the thermostat, head gasket, engine mounts(though not related to the heating issue) and radiator ourselves, and it still overheats. We have to pull over to the side of the road to let the vehicle cool and add in more coolant/water a several times per week. Just now as I went to drive to Portland, the car shut off on idle. I got it started back up almost immediately, then about 500 feet later it turned off again. I finished driving around the block with next to no irregularities, except my engine light was flashing at me. I'm worried it is something with my transmission, because when I idle at a stop light in drive, the vehicle has a intense shuddering.

My car has 135000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
