My key fob died and i replaced the battery and it still doesn't work. My car told me the battery was log and it finally died. After i replaced it the light on the fob lights up but the car won't unlock. Does it just need to be reset or does the fob need to be replaced? Can you confirm if you have the smart key system or a metal ignition key?

do you mean push start? All I know is that its a push button to start.
Automotive Expert
Yes, that is what I need to know. Does the vehicle start correctly?

It was up until the fob died. NOw that the fob is dead, it won't unlock and I can't get into the car.i replaced the battery and the fob works now but it won't unlock the car
Automotive Expert
Okay, but can you start the car once you're in it? The smart key fob has a metal key so you can get into the car. It's built into the remote.

the little light lights up when i push the buttons but it won't unlock the car. The key that's inside the fob won't turn so I can't use that to get in.
Automotive Expert
Please confirm that all of the remote functions have failed. Lock, unlock, panic.

I had a few people try to use the key to make sure it wasn't just me!I don't know if it will start because I can't get inIt lights up when i push the button but the car won't actually unlock.
Automotive Expert
There is a physical key in the remote. You can get in with that key. The remote is not necessary.

the fob lights up is what i mean. Like the little red lighti understand, the key inside will not turn when I put it in the lock.I cannot get in with the key.Does my key fob need to be replaced or just reset? If I call a lock smith and I get in the car, will I be able to know?Thats probably confusing.I can't get in the car to see if it will turn on at this moment. The fob and the key inside are not working. I will need a locksmith to open the door. Once I am inside, does the key just need to be reset?
Automotive Expert
Okay, that makes sense.

Do toyota keys usually need to be reset? Once I'm in the car will the car usually turn on once the battery is replaced? If it needs to be reset, how do i do that?
Automotive Expert
It’s difficult to say because we have no way to test the key signal or the programming. If we can get inside and attempt to start we’ll have a better idea. It could be the remote, the programming or the vehicle not properly interpreting the signal. It’s also possible the battery is dead in the car which is why you aren’t getting a response. Luckily a mobile locksmith can test the remote, programming and cut/program a new key on the spot for you. But if the issue is in the vehicle it will have to be towed in for diagnostics.

Oh ok. The car was working just fine yesterday, the only thing is that it said the key fob battery was low. Is it possible the car will start once I am inside?
Automotive Expert
Yes it is entirely possible. The car is designed to work even when the remote is not sending the signal. You simply press the Toyota symbol on the back of the key remote to the start button and then depress the start button.
