Q: My car has been pinging for months now and I need your professional help

asked by on

My Toyota Corolla Axio 2008 model has been pinging for months now and I have taken it to many mechanics who have given me several advises. I have changed many parts as recommended but I still have the problem. What we have observed however is the plugs are rusted at the contacts and although we have cleaned them the problem still exist. It has been felt by a mechanic that the car could have a overheating problem, although the gauge is reading normal. Please help me.

My car has 122358 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hello. If the spark plugs are rusty, that is typically an indication of water or coolant inside the combustion chamber. This is only possible if there is a crack in the engine block or cylinder head damage. However, it’s also possible that condensation has leaked into the spark plug chamber due to faulty spark plug wires. I’d start by replacing your spark plugs and wires first to see if the trouble clear up.
