Jeep tries to start, but doesn't.
This sounds to me like the starter is cranking over very slowly. This can be due to the starter motor being weak and in need of replacement or the battery being weak and in need of a charge or replacement....
What can cause your car to stall out and what can cause the rpms to go up?
It sounds like you are getting a bad reading from the crankshaft (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/crankshaft-position-sensor-replacement) or camshaft sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/camshaft-position-sensor-replacement). Generally, the check engine light (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/check-engine-light-is-on-inspection) comes on when something fairly serious is going on with the vehicle.
