I did the timing chain gasket water pump and [thermostat](/topics-thermostat-jeep/) now there's white smoke coming out and car will not be what could have what could be wrong Mechanic's Assistant: Has the vehicle ever overheated? And when was it last serviced? No it was leaking oil from the time you change gasket and had a rough idle took it apart timing chain looked great all parts looks good motor was aligned resealed it and put it back on and and now it's throwing white smoke and it won't bleed I don't know where the coolant is going but it keeps disappearing I know it's burning coolant I'm just not sure from where Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car? 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 l Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Grand Cherokee yourself? What have you tried so far? I was repairing it for a friend and so far we only did the timing chain he just got his valve covers done a month ago and then the timing chain cover a water pump thermostat that's about it so far

Good Afternoon, my name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* ill be helping you, so sorry to hear about the issues here on the Jeep. I know how frustrating it can be to deal with engine related issues. Now why was the timing chain and other parts replaced initially? was it due to the rough running and losing coolant?

No the timing chain gasket was gone I just needed to replace the gasket it's just leaking some oil it was running fine it was a little bit rough of an idle but it wasn't bad and the roughness and the idle's gone it sounds like it's problems I'm having with it is it is burning Flint somewhere there is white smoke coming out of exhaust and it is not wanting to bleed I could just keep adding and adding coolant nothing is coming out there's no coolant in the oil I regain the oil to double check andThere's no oil in the coolant I've been bleeding it for two days now the only problems I had when taking it off is the harmonic balancer got stuck it was seized on there so we had to kind of unseize it off but that was the only problem we had otherwise everything looked great on timing chain was in place it looked alignedI added about eight gallons of coolant and then stopped cuz I know it's going somewhere I just don't know where exactly head gaskets are good it just had valve covers done about a month ago it had the head gaskets done it has new spark plugs it has a new thermostat new water pump need timing chain gasket

okay thank you, \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* way you describe the symptoms i suspect that we have blown a head gasket im afraid. the white smoke you have is coolant burning and since thats where the coolant is going. A blown head gasket does not always mix the coolant and oil right away. i would recommend we get a compression test or a coolant pressure test done soon to verify any internal leaks but all things considered i fully expect for you to need to replace a head gasket here.

Ok sounds good

When heat is on temperature gauge goes towards cold. When heat is off it goes back to being in the middle. 2001 Buick Regal
Hi there - the temperature gauge behavior you describe would indicate that you need a new thermostat (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-thermostat). The thermostat should keep engine temperature within a close range - close to the center of the gauge from a visual point...
