The 4.6 engine is a generally a very dependable engine. The lack of acceleration in this engine may be cause by be a few different sensors being faulty or the fuel system malfunctioning. The first thing I would suggest is to have the computer scanned for codes to see if the mass air flow sensor or the throttle position sensor are malfunctioning. The next step would be to see if the fuel pump is providing enough pressure and the flow is not being restricted by a clogged fuel filter. I recommend having a certified mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, to come and check your acceleration issue for you and give you a diagnosis.
