My Hyundai 2013 [accent](/topics-accent/) has been making this rattling noise for months and today I took it in to get an oil change they denied it because they say its the engine but dont know the exact problem Mechanic's Assistant: Where exactly do you think the noise is coming from? And how long has this been going on? Its definitely coming from the engine like something can be loose and its rattling in there. It's been a few months now it's been happening Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Accent yourself? What have you tried so far? The engine light came on two or 3 months ago it came up as knock sensor and I got that replaced thinking it would make the sound go away but it did not Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? No that's it

Hi Kaneath it's nice to meet you. It sounds like you have a timing chain tensioner that is bad in the engine. The shop won't do the oil change because if it should fail you could hold them liable. What you really should do is have the engine inspected and get an estimate for repair, then have the work done and the oil changed. This is likely going to run $1000-$1200 to repair if I am right with the diagnosis. A shop that can actually see and hear it is in order at this stage. If you have any follow-up questions, please feel free to ask, it's part of the service. If not, thank you for taking the time to contact us today. I am hopeful you found my information helpful and had a good experience.

How long can the car run before it actually just dies out or something?
Automotive Expert
I've no idea to be honest. There really is no way of knowing that.

Ok thank you

You're very welcome.
