Q: Front engine seal is leaking

asked by on February 12, 2016

The front engine seal on my vehicle is leaking.

Hello, if the front crankshaft seal is leaking, the only way to stop the leak is to replace the seal. The harmonic damper needs to removed for access to the seal. Other parts may have to be removed like the engine cooling fan or radiator to get enough room for access. Often times, along with the seal, there will be a sleeve to be installed on the snout of the damper so there is a smooth surface for new seal to seal against. You may need the aid of mechanic since special tools are needed to remove and install the harmonic damper and seal.

There is a lot of slack on my serpertine belt ?
It sounds like you may have either a stretched serpentine belt (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/serpentine-drive-belt-replacement) or more likely a tensioner pulley (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/drive-belt-tensioner-replacement) that may need to be adjusted to reduce the excess slack in the belt. I would suggest having a professional from...
