My door continues to chime even after removing the key. Also my doors will only lock if I use the fob, or put the key in the door. Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the fob's battery? I have not, but I have 2 fobs - would they both go bad at the same time. Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car? Ford 2009 Escape Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Escape yourself? What have you tried so far? I’d like to fix it if I can. My boyfriend cleaned the ignition switch and checked fuses Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? I think that’s it. Thanks!

Ok thanks, \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* you have any theft or security lights flashing?

I think it's the security light

Does it look like a key shape or a lock flashing?

Lock

Ok..it sounds like a faulty ignition switch, do you have another spare key to put into ignition?

same thing
Automotive Expert
Ok..the ignition switch is probably loosing a ground signal, it is a pretty common issue on those, I would at least try to get it scanned and see what codes are stored, for the time being you should be able to pull a fuse to eliminate the chime noise it may be tied to another circuit such as cigarette lighter or rear wiper etc..

Ok thanks

I have a ford expedition and accidentally drove it in 2nd gear on highway over 45mph for about 5minutes any damage to the tranny?
Hi Brandon. In an older vehicle like your 2000 Ford Expedition, inner transmission seals and gaskets are fairly worn in general. Driving in second gear in an automatic transmission up to speeds of 45 could have possibly damaged inner components...
