So since nothing happens when you shift it the first thing I would check is the shift cable. Make sure it is snapped on the linkage good. It will have to be mechanical like that because even unplugged the trans will work just not shift. Yours wont even engage. Have someone shift it and watch the linkage and driveshaft for movement. If all is good there it has to be an internal issue with the trans. Oh make sure the torque converter bolts are in! That could cause it also.

Torque converter bolts are all installed linkage is intact I can shift and you can hear the difference sounds of the [engine](/topics-engine-ford/) but the transmission will not engage in any of the positions the only position that sounds normal is neutral and parkthis transmission that I just installed it's brand new so should not have any mechanical issues at all

Is it 4wd?

It is a Fx4 sorry just read it. Make sure the t-case isn't in neutral. Are the driveshafts moving at all under the truck? If the linkage is moving and converter is attached and spinning then it should have output from the trans unless there is an issue internal to it or the t-case.

It is the Fx4 when I switch to 4H or 4L you can hear the case engagingDrive shafts won't move freely at the moment
Automotive Expert
I would advise removing the t-case and seeing if the rear output spins when the trans is in gear. IF so then it is a t-case problem. If not it is internal transmission. Just cause it is new doesn't mean there couldn't be a problem. See it all the time.

Ok thank you

No problem hope it all works out for you. Happy new year!
