My 2001 Ford ranger has developed a massive amount of vibration At 1500 rpm it is extreme but goes way if I let off the gas and the accelerate. Changing gears Mechanic's Assistant: Have you noticed an increase in fuel consumption? And how does the Ranger start—same as usual? Starts the same cant say I've noticed a fuel difference Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Ranger yourself? What have you tried so far? I've done research Told I should change my plugs and wires Maybe fuel filter And clean my maf sensor Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? When it happens I lose power and acceleration

Alright, is the check [engine](/topics-engine-ford/) light on or off now when driving? Thank you.

but it's been onJust bought this used for 1500Can I send you videos on here
Automotive Expert
Alright, I follow you, go ahead and stop at a local auto parts store, get them to scan the vehicle for codes, and if you have any misfire codes, then I would go ahead and put new plug wires and plugs in it, and maybe even the coil pack. there is no distributor in this truck, so the coil pack can ARC out the side of it instead of sending the fire to the plug.

Ok how can I check my fuel filter and I read my maf sensor needs cleaned eevery 5 yrsthe plugs I can handle but the coil pack, would i have to pull the engine or anything
Automotive Expert
It's not going to hurt it to clean it, but generally speaking, it's not a normal maintenance item to clean the MAF. I wouldn't worry about trying to check the fuel filter, I believe Ford said replace it every 100K on that model. No, to replace the coil pack is fairly simple. a few bolts and one connector.

Dont have to remove much to get to it?
Automotive Expert
No, it's beside the oil cap, pretty much on top. no biggie there.

Awesome thank youa bad plug would cause massive shaking?
Automotive Expert
if you spray it down with some water and it immediately starts running bad, that's a sign its misfiring and needs either wires or plugs, or a new coil pack, or if it's all original, I would just do it all.

I've checked my motor mounts
Automotive Expert
it very well could. But also could be the harmonic balancer coming apart, so take a good look at it.

My tires are new and rim's are good
Automotive Expert
Will it shake just revving it up in park? Is it auto matic or manual\>

What is a harmonic balancer? And what could happen if it falls apartIt shakes slightly when I let off the gas. Accelerating stops itAuto
Automotive Expert
The harmonic balancer mounts on the front of the crankshaft down in the front of the engine that spins the belt. it's made of rubber and is used to dampened engine vibrations. If you can shake the bottom pulley back and forth where the belt goes around, then it could be failing.

Ok I'll try that
Automotive Expert
Alright, Thank you and let us know if you have any further questions!

Its tight as can be
Automotive Expert
Alright, then it's probably alright, if you let it idle, and spray the coil pack with some water, and it starts shaking, I would put a new one on it.

Thank you so glad I found your service. And great job explaining this to me edward
Automotive Expert
Absolutely, Thank you!
