Q: Transmission problem?

asked by on February 13, 2017

My f150 will not shift properly and the overdrive light flashes and abs turned on as soon as I crank the car. The trans fault light also comes on I had the transmission rebuilt but it still seems to be acting up

This may indicate a failing speed sensor. The transmission speed sensor is a magnetic sensor that provides information related to the speed of the input and output shafts in the transmission, allowing the transmission to shift smoothly. The sensor counts the internal number of revolutions of the transmission and transmits that information to the transmission control unit, where the data is used to determine the rotational speed. As the rotation increases, the control unit directs the changing of gears. When this is not working properly, this may cause the transmission to shift erratically or in some cases not at all. I would recommend having an expert from YourMechanic come to your location to take the car for a test drive to more specifically determine the cause for this.

According to the service I use to make recommendations by mileage, the change interval for the timing belt (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/timing-belt-replacement) is 120,000 miles. 100,000 miles is a little early, but it is better to perform services like these earlier rather than...

My car idles up and down after it warms up--rpms jumping up and down about every second between, about, 1600 and 1900.
This may indicate a faulty fuel pressure regulator (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/fuel-pressure-regulator-replacement) or dirty fuel injectors causing a fluctuation in the fuel supplied to the motor and thereby causing the RPM's to fluctuate. As you know, when you turn the key to on,...

I'm guessing that you are getting a P0171 code (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/p0171-obd-ii-trouble-code-system-too-lean-bank-1-by-andrew-quinn) or something similar. Yes, its telling you that the engine is running too lean, but there is not an adjustment that you can make. When this happens it is because...
