Hello, Sorry to hear about your issue. When you set the distributor was cylinder #1 TDC on the compression stroke?

the distributor went in all the way. I finished the project and put everything back on, which was no picnic, ending with replacing the [spark plugs](/topics-spark-plug-chevy/) too. When I took off the distributor cap the cap was pointing towards the back. IS this right?
Automotive Expert
Which engine do you have?

original 350 L48the rotor cap is facing the back, should the rotor cap be facing 1 every time you go to start?
Automotive Expert
It should be right before the #1 plug on the cap. No it should not be on 1 every time you go to start.

the carb was rebuilt at National Carb and they say they tested it out before sending it back and I should not have to make any adjustments.
Automotive Expert
You are correct. Can you try starting fluid t see if that does anything.

dont have any
Automotive Expert
Could you get some?

it would mean I have to go out and disconnectI have carb cleaner stuff like gumout
Automotive Expert
That would be fine, Just respond here once you are back.

Hi Keiphun, I just spent two months on this project and at this point I will have to stop and get this in hands of someone local that can get this corrected. Many thanks.

Car stalling after changing gears.
Hi there, the first step would be reading out possible fault codes stored in both the engine computer and transmission computer with a scan tool. Next would be determining the nature under which the stalling occurs. Does it just stall...
Broken belts oil leak
This vehicle uses only one belt and an automatic tensioner. You didn't say what engine you have, but the V8 engines are known for having problems with the harmonic balancer (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/crankshaft-harmonic-balancer-replacement) coming loose or falling apart. This could be one...
Intermittent burning smell in the car
Hello. It sounds possible that there was some leftover fluid from a repair completed previously that is now leaking on the exhaust and causing a burning smell in your car (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/smell-in-the-car-inspection). There could also be a very small or slow...
ABS & SRS lights on; car shifts hard and shudders
Hi there. These repairs that were done are fairly normal for this vehicle. It is very common for this car to have issues with these systems with age. I am actually a little surprised that there were not more issues...
My 2001 vw beetle won't go over 20 mph and not shifting.
Hi there. The computer has put the engine into limp mode for a fault that the sensors have picked up. Since the transmission is not shifting, first check the transmission oil level and make sure that its full and red...
Brake light comes on momentarily after hard braking (like going down a hill) but only after coming to a complete stop

My car makes a loud noise, shakes and has trouble starting when we put gas in it.
The purge valve is most likely leaking fumes into the intake manifold when your are refuelling the vehicle. This will flood the engine with gas fumes and cause the hard start and run rough until the excess fumes are burned...
Transmission jerking, missing when accelerating in a 2006 Pontiac g6
Your issue might be engine related as opposed to the transmission. If you are looking at it yourself, you'll want to first check and see if any diagnostic trouble codes have been stored. If not, a real time scanner will...
I bought a brand new alternator and my car still wouldn’t start
Hi Breona. Thanks for contacting us tonight. The fact that your boyfriend was able to 'fix' the car temporarily by 'messing with the wires' indicates that the root issue is likely poor electrical connections as opposed to a mechanical problem...
