THe passlock wires won't be an issue, the are read by the body module from the sensor in the ignition cylinder housing. While I have not tried to put a 99 switch on a 96, if it fits and the other wires are the same, then you can use it with no issues. The passlock system simply uses a 3 wire Hall effect sensor in the cylinder housing that measures the ignition cylinder rotation to ensure to correlates to the ignition feeds. That system does not impact the rest of the ignition switch. For that matter you could even use the ignition cylinder and such on the 96, provided the wiring for the ignition switch is the same. The security is inside the modules. Your 96 does not have that security system so those wires and sensor would not be needed or used if present.

I went an easier rout i purchased the whole steering column off of a 1995 gmc sanoma... The ignition cylinder and wires are identical from my truck.... Ots gonnna be easier i think replace that
